All about Locations

Locations

Locations can be defined as any place inventory is stored or a place of business operation. You can create a location in your AuctionBlaze organization and assign this location to Items and Workspaces. Each Location can also be used as a Primary, Shipping or Billing address to be applied automatically in Purchase or Sales Orders.

  • Adding a Location to a Workspace or an Item
  • Transferring inventory to a different Location

Sub-Locations

The ability to use sub-locations, even a single level, offers significant advantages in managing your assets or inventory by enhancing organization, making items easier to find. AuctionBlaze allows for a single level of sub-location.

Significantly Improved Organization:

  • Logical Structuring: Instead of a flat, potentially long list of general locations, sub-locations allow you to create a more logical and intuitive hierarchy. For instance, if "France" is a main location, having "Paris," "Nantes," "Lille," and "Lyon" as sub-locations neatly categorizes operations or inventory within that country. Similarly, for a specific city like "Lyon," breaking it down into "Warehouse 1" and "Warehouse 2" helps differentiate distinct storage facilities.
  • Mirrors Physical Layouts: Sub-locations often better reflect the actual physical or administrative divisions within your organization, making the system more intuitive for users who are familiar with these real-world structures.

Enhanced Findability:

  • Quicker Identification: When you need to locate an asset or check stock, sub-locations narrow down your search significantly. If you know an item is in "France," you can immediately focus your attention on its specific city sub-locations like "Paris" or "Lyon." This is much faster than scanning a list that might include locations from entirely different regions or purposes.
  • Targeted Searches: This makes searching and filtering more effective. Users can quickly isolate information relevant to a specific sub-location without being overwhelmed by data from other areas.

More Precise Assignment of Inventory (or Assets):

  • Increased Granularity: Assigning inventory to a sub-location like "Lyon > Warehouse 1" is far more precise than just "Lyon." This means you know exactly which facility holds specific stock items. This level of detail is crucial for accurate record-keeping.
  • Reduced Ambiguity: It eliminates guesswork about where items are stored, especially if a main location (like a city) encompasses multiple operational sites.

Accurate Inventory Levels and Status for Better Planning:

  • Detailed Visibility: By having inventory assigned to specific sub-locations, you gain a clear and accurate view of stock levels at each distinct point. For example, you can see exactly how much of a product is in "Paris" versus "Lyon," or in "Warehouse 1" versus "Warehouse 2" within Lyon.
  • Optimize Stock Distribution: Identify if one sub-location is overstocked while another is running low, facilitating transfers.
  • Improve Reporting: Generate more granular reports, for example, on inventory value or turnover for just "Nantes," or compare the stock performance across different warehouses in "Lyon."
  • Efficient Operations: Knowing exactly where items are helps streamline processes like picking, packing, shipping, and audits, as staff can go directly to the correct sub-location.
